WCW Monday Nitro: October 16, 1995

We are live from the Civic Center in Albany, NY for this week's edition of WCW Monday Nitro. We are shown footage from WCW Pro this past Saturday morning where Ric Flair asks his old arch nemesis Sting to team with him for tonight's match against Arn Anderson and Brian Pillman.

It's strange for Sting to even consider teaming with him considering their past and Flair betraying him several times before. What would be different this time? Sting agrees anyhow and if Flair swerves him anyway that he will leave Flair for dead.

Our first match is for the WCW World Television Championship as champion Diamond Dallas Page takes on Johnny B Badd. We are shown a clip from two weeks ago on WCW Saturday Night where Badd was supposed to get a U.S. Title match against Sting, but did not show up.

It was revealed by Maxx Muscle that Page slashed his tires, preventing him from appearing at the arena. Badd saw that Page was caught in a web of lies and knocked Page out with the left hook he calls the "Tootie Fruity." Page believed he should get the U.S. Title shot.

Out comes Page with the super hot Diamond Doll. Eric Bischoff announces that Page will defend his TV Title against Badd at Halloween Havoc. Page nails Badd with the TV belt to knock him out before the match even starts as there will be no match tonight. The Diamond Doll was not happy with Page as he lays on top of Badd and counts 1-2-3 for himself. Page then shoots off Badd's confetti gun.

Next up is Chris Benoit in his return to WCW after a two-year absence and takes on Eddie Guerrero. These two have had classic matches in ECW and other promotions in the world. These two put on a classic match as they match move-for-move and counter-for-counter.

Benoit gives Guerrero a big time powerbomb, but only gets a two-count. He goes for another, which Guerrero counters into a roll up. Benoit gets Guerrero in a full nelson and does a bridge suplex for the 1-2-3 to win a really thrilling match. Eric Bischoff announces that there might be a Cruiserweight Title coming to WCW soon.

Mean Gene Okerlund is in the ring first representing the WCW Hotline by saying there's a WWF official (Bill Watts) that got fired and a WWF wrestler that was beat up by a "fan." That's Shawn Michaels being attacked by several men outside a bar in Syracuse.

$1.49 a minute kids get your parents' permission. If you have internet, you don't have to worry about the hotline. This internet fad could put hotlines out of business. I guess it serves you right for trying to give away your competition's inside information and trying to profit off it.

Okerlund calls down Kevin Sullivan and The Giant to the ring to interview them. Sullivan says he knew since berth that he was evil and it was Hulk Hogan who created him. He brags about shaving off Hogan's mustache.

Sullivan then goes on and says the Hulkamaniacs will give up on Hogan and become "children of the Dungeon of Doom." The Giant then talks and says he wants to push Hogan off the top of Cobo Hall during their Monster Truck battle and take the World Heavyweight Championship from him.

WCW Saturday Night will feature Hacksaw Jim Duggan taking on V.K. Wallstreet. Alex Wright battles Disco Inferno. Randy "Macho Man" Savage takes on newcomer Hugh Morris (sounds like humorous get it?) and Hulk Hogan will also be there.

Meng battles Duggan as Meng takes it Duggan early on. Meng misses a cross body off the second rope. Duggan gives Meng a poweslam and sets up for his three-point stance running clothesline. However, Meng hits him with a superkick. Meng pulls out the golden spike and jams it in the side of Duggan's neck for the win.

The all-black wearing Hulk Hogan is shown with Jimmy Hart cutting a promo where he talks about joining the "dark side." He says Hulkamania is bigger than a certain wrestling promotion (WWF for those who don't know). Hogan says he's indeed evil and will take out the entire Dungeon of Doom. He says he will "bury" The Giant alongside his "father."

It's time for the main event where Ric Flair teams with Sting to take on Arn Anderson and "Not so Flyin" Brian Pillman. I guess he's no longer Flyin. Well it will be Flair taking on the two in a Handicap match as Sting has not shown up. Perhaps Sting screwed Flair before Flair had the chance to screw him.

Flair does his best to fight off the duo, but they frequently double-team him. Arn hits Flair with a spinebuster as Sting finally comes to the ring. After more double-teaming, Pillman missed a drop kick and Flair gets the tag to Sting.

Sting comes in like a house of fire taking out both Arn and Pillman. He takes both men out with clotheslines and then one double clothesline. After clotheslining Arn out of the ring and throwing Pillman off the top rope, Arn and Pillman had enough and leave the ring and get counted out, giving the win to Sting and Flair.

Gene Okerlund meets Sting and Flair in the ring. Sting says Flair earned his respect for taking on Arn and Pillman by himself and is convinced Flair is changed for the better. He agrees to team with Flair to take on Arn and Pillman at Halloween Havoc. Sting and Flair high-five as the event comes to an end.

Next week on Nitro: Sting and Lex Luger take on The Harlem Heat. Chris Benoit teams with Dean Malenko to battle Alex Wright and Eddie Guerrero. Hulk Hogan will also be at Nitro.
