WCW SuperBrawl VI

We are live from St. Petersburg, FL. for SuperBrawl VI with our hosts Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, and "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes. There is a video highlighting all the matches as the three hype up the two Steel Cage matches: Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and Hulk Hogan vs. The Giant.

The opening match is The Nasty Boys vs. The Public Enemy in a Street Fight. This is where 1994 WCW Nasty Boys meets ECW in what should be a thrilling match. The match quickly goes to the floor where members of The Public Enemy use tables and The Nasty Boys use steel chairs.

Rocco Rock wants to splash Brian Knobbs through the table, but Knobbs picks him up and slams him through the table instead. Knobbs pins him but Grunge breaks it up with a chair. Jerry Saggs brings a trash can in and hits Grunge several times with the lid. He then piledrives Grunge onto the trashcan and covers him, but Grunge puts his foot on the rope to break up the pin.

Knobbs and Rock head over to the entrance way where Knobbs suplexes Rock through a table. Saggs and Grunge make their way over to the entrance way as well. The Public Enemy continue to beat on the Nasties with chairs and trashcan lids. Grunge gives Saggs a bulldog onto a chair. They set Knobbs up on a table and Rock leaps off a balcony, but Knobbs moves out of the way and Rock crashes through the table. Knobbs pins him for the 1-2-3.

Gene Okerlund mentions his hotline and says two former WWF champions are coming to WCW. U.S. Heavyweight Champion Konnan comes out for an interview.

It's time for the WCW World Television Championship match between champion Johnny B. Badd with The Diamond Doll Kimberly vs. Diamond Dallas Page. This match was literally for everything: Badd's TV title AND Kimberly for the remainder of Page's $13 million winnings from bingo he stole from Kimberly which is about $6.6 million. Page even had one of those giant novelty checks written out and brought to the ring.

Page also brought roses and gave them to Kimberly only for Badd to attack Page from behind. Badd flips Page over the top rope which is not a DQ for some reason. Badd hits him with a double-ax handle off the apron and then brings him back into the ring where Badd performs his slingshot leg drop over the top rope onto Page for a two-count.

Page lowblows Badd and gets the advantage. He hits Badd with a gutbuster but instead of going for a cover, he tells Kimberly to give him a "10" for the move, but she refuses to do so. Badd attempts a sunset flip as Page kneels on Badd's shoulders only for Badd to complete the sunset flip for two.

Badd attempts a hiptoss only for Page to counter it into an awesome looking DDT. Again Page doesn't cover Badd and wants another "10" from Kimberly and again she does not give it to him (maybe her not giving it to him is what led to the breakup in the first place LOL). Instead she gives him a "0" and then "whacks" with the card allowing Badd to roll him from behind but only got two.

Badd soon fights back with several right and left hand punches and then a double ax handle off the top rope which Kimberly gives him a "10." Badd then gives him a flying sunset flip off the top rope only for two. Page rolls out of the ring and drops Badd's throat onto the top rope. Page gives him a Pancake Slam but only gets two.

Page puts him in a sleeper hold only for Badd to break it up with a jawbreaker. Badd then goes for the sleeper as Page backs him up into the corner to break it up. Page goes for another tilt-a-whirl Pancake Slam but Badd reverses it into a Tombstone Piledriver for the 1-2-3 to retain the title and Kimberly and win the $6.6 million for the bingo winnings.

Gene Okerlund is now standing with Harlem Heat as they would head to the ring for their WCW World Tag Team Championship match against the champions Sting and Lex Luger. The winner of this match will face The Road Warriors for the titles later in the show.

Harlem Heat wants a piece of Luger after Luger knocked Booker T out with a roll of silver dollars to win the titles a few weeks ago. This match saw Sting really be the babyface and Luger be the heel and Harlem Heat would be the opposite of whoever was in the ring. Sting did his heroic moves and take his beating while Luger would do some dirty moves on whoever and work the heel angle such as leave the ring and take his time before getting back in.

The match would see all four men brawl in the ring with Sting and Booker T fighting on the outside with the referee going to the floor to stop both men from fighting outside. Meanwhile, Stevie Ray tried to give Luger a powerbomb only for The Road Warriors to run in and hit Stevie with some kind of metal pipe, knocking him out. Luger fell on top of Stevie for the 1-2-3 to retain the tag team titles.

Now it's time for Konnan to defend the United States Heavyweight Title against the man he beat for the title in One Man Gang. Konnan connects on a somersault onto the floor. Then he hits Gang with a Frankensteiner and tries for a drop kick only to miss.

Gang connects on a 747 Splash but pulls him up before the referee counted three. Gang climbs to the middle rope to try a 747 Splash but missed. Konnan hits him with a Flyinh Somersault to win the match and retain the U.S. Title. Gene Okerlund then interviews The Road Warriors.

Next up is the "I Respect You" Leather Strap match between Kevin Sullivan, accompanied by Jimmy Hart, against Brian Pillman. This is not your typical leather strap match if I can say even that. Unlike previous strap matches where you must touch all four corners to win, this one however the only to win is to make your opponent say "I Respect You" just like an "I Quit" match.

Both Sullivan and Pillman take turns whipping the hell out of each other as you would expect. Sullivan got the upper hand and was beating on Pillman only for Pillman to grab the microphone from the referee and yell "I Respect You, Booker Man!" and left the ring after wrestling for not even a minute. Pillman headed straight to the dressing room as this doesn't look like it was supposed to happen as Sullivan looks confused.

Arn Anderson runs to the ring and I thought was going to beat the hell out of Pillman. He doesn't and instead takes Pillman's place in the strap match as it will be Arn vs. Sullivan. These two would beat the hell out of each other as well. Ric Flair then comes to the ring to get these two to stop fighting.

He tells them both that they need to band together to destroy Hulk Hogan and "Macho Man" Randy Savage and says "United We Stand, Divided We Fall!" Arn and Sullivan then shake hands as it appears there will be an alliance between the Four Horsemen and the Dungeon of Doom. The Giant then was being interviewed backstage by Gene Okerlund.

It's WCW World Tag Team Championship match part 2 with Sting and Lex Luger defending the titles against The Road Warriors in a match that would be awesome for 1989. Luger again really played his mega heel role where he took forever walking in and out of the ring to stall the match as he didn't want anything to do with The Road Warriors.

Sting would hit Animal with a Stinger Splash and try to put him into the Scorpion Death Lock only for Hawk to attack Sting as Luger would come in and dispatch Hawk. The match ended with all four men brawling on the outside as the match was thrown out and Sting and Luger retaining the titles.

This definitely won't be the last of these two teams that's for sure. Gene Okerlund is backstage with Ric Flair and Woman as Flair's match with Randy Savage for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship is next.

We are shown the steel cage being lowered to the ring. A video is then shown promoting the next PPV WCW Uncensored on March 24th. If it's anything like last year's inaugural Uncensored PPV well save your money that was terrible. Then again it can't be worse can it? Okerlund is backstage with both Savage and Elizabeth.

It's time for the first half of the double main event steel cage matches this one for the WCW World Title between Savage (w/ Elizabeth) and Flair (w/Woman) as I guess the terrible Hulk Hogan vs. The Giant will be last as Hogan gets what Hogan wants just like what Woman wants Woman gets. Michael Buffer is doing the intro like he does every WCW PPV main event.

Flair was trying to get a kiss from Liz only for Savage to go nuts and attack Flair at the start of the match. Flair gives Savage a low blow and begins to take charge by throwing Savage into the cage. Flair then hits the referee and knocks him down for some reason.

Savage gives Flair a backslide as the ref suddenly gets back up to count only two. Savage then gives Flair a backdrop and two clotheslines again for only two. Flair then sends Savage again into the cage and begins to beat on Savage. That is until he climbs the top rope and is bodyslammed off the top rope.

Savage then puts Flair in Flair's own Figure Four. Flair is in the hold until he grabs the hold and Savage is forced to let the hold go for some reason despite this being a No DQ cage match but whatever. Savage then goes to the top but is hit with a punch to the gut by Flair.

Flair gives Savage his delayed vertical suplex only for two as he tries to pin him again and again but still only for two. Flair again sends Savage into the cage as Savage hangs on the top rope doing some damage to his knee and ultimately setting up for Flair's Figure Four.

Now Flair goes for the Figure Four and does his usual holding onto the bottom rope for more leverage yet this is No DQ so it shouldn't matter right? Savage then gets to the rope and the referee forces him to break the hold again what the fuck?!?! It's No DQ but if you don't break the hold it's a DQ?!?! I guess it's just a force of habit and of course you can't put the Figure Four on all night.

Flair tries for the Figure Four again but Savage counters it into a small package for two. Savage fires back as he beats on Flair and sends him into the cage a few times and then grinds his face into the cage causing Flair to bleed heavily like usual.

Savage then goes for the corner ten-punch move only for Flair to give him an inverted atomic drop out of the corner. Flair begins to climb the cage despite the fact this isn't the WWF and you don't win cage matches in WCW by escaping the cage.

Savage prevents this as he pulls Flair's pants down like Flair always has his pants pulled down in every match. This also sends Flair crotch-first onto the top rope as Savage goes for the pin but only gets two. Savage again sends Flair into the cage as this breaks the cage door open.

Woman then grabs white powder and tries to throw it in Savage's eyes, but Savage ducks. All of a sudden, Elizabeth takes her shoe off and hands the shoe over to Flair!?!?! What the hell?!?! This is not accidental as she intended to do it as Flair uses the shoe to knock Savage out and pinned him for the 1-2-3 to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, his 13th reign as world champion!!!

As if you needed more fuel on the fire to the Flair-Savage feud with Flair beating up his 80-year-old father last year, Flair now has Savage's ex-wife Liz on his side as this will add to some amazing storylines.

I felt the WWF missed the boat on this a few years ago when there was that Savage-Flair feud and Flair claimed to have an affair with Liz while she was still Savage's wife in both storyline and real life. Of course, Savage and Liz were going through their divorce shit so it wouldn't happen as Liz left the WWF shortly after WrestleMania VIII. Now WCW can have their fun with this and capitalize on it.

Flair is back as world champion that's cool it was about to happen. Anything is better than Hulk Hogan wearing the world title but I'm afraid Flair is holding onto the belt for Hogan to take it back in a month or two. I wish The Giant would get a run as world champion or dare I say Sting who is the Franchise of WCW. Of course Hogan is keeping Sting down and will likely let his WWF buddies win the belt before Tsing.

Speak of the devil, here comes Hogan wearing his eye patch with a still damaged eye, getting ready for his cage match with The Giant as Hogan is carrying a steel chair to chase Flair, Arn Anderson, and anyone else in the ring out of the ring.

The Giant attacks Hogan early on before Hogan fights back with right hand punches and biting. Hogan signals for a bodyslam, but The Giant blocks it and attacks Hogan. Giant puts Hogan in a bearhug before Hogan literally claws his way out. Hogan tries to send Giant into the steel cage, but Giant blocks it and sends Hogan face-first in the cage.

Giant attacks Hogan's "injured" eye and chokes him with Hogan's own t-shirt. He goes for an elbow drop but misses. Hogan fights back and again goes for a bodyslam, but The Giant falls on top of Hogan but only got a two-count. The Giant works the back of Hogan for a while and then shoves Hogan's face into the cage a few times.

The Giant gives Hogan a huge vertical suplex and then heads out the cage door. I guess I was wrong earlier saying WCW does not have cage matches decided by escaping the cage. Now you can leave the cage in addition to a pinfall or a submission whereas the WWF is just escape the cage only. Hogan stops Giant from leaving the cage.

The Giant gives Hogan a backbreaker and again throws Hogan into the cage. Hogan should bleed or something right? Giant again puts Hogan into a bearhug and forces Hogan to pass out before Hogan gets a second wind and fights his way out of the hold.

Hogan then goes to the ropes only for The Giant to kick him in the gut and Giant gives Hogan the Chokeslam. Cover 1-2-and Hogan kicks out and begins to No-sell and "Hulk Up!" Hogan then sends The Giant into the steel cage several times and then gives him the Big Boot.

After "summoning" super human strength from the Hulkamaniacs, Hogan went for the bodyslam and managed to pick up and slam the Giant. Hogan then gave Giant three Leg Drops and then Hogan climbs the cage despite not walking out the door which is right there.

The Giant quickly pops up and catches Hogan and prevents him from leaving the cage. The Giant begins to climb the cage as the two trade blows before Hogan gets the better of him with several right hands. With The Giant all wobbly, Hogan manages to boot Giant in the face sending him crashing to the mat. Hogan then climbed over the top of the cage and both feet hit the floor to win the match.

As soon as Hogan hits the floor, Kevin Sullivan hits him with a steel chair to the back but Hogan no-sells it. Hogan grabs the chair and chases Sullivan back into the cage. Soon the entire Dungeon of Doom enter the cage as Hogan attacks each and every member with the chair.

Out comes this nearly 500-lb. slob looking guy that the Dungeon of Doom calls "Loch Ness." Everyone in the Dungeon of Doom prevents Loch Ness from entering the cage as Hogan ended the PPV by celebrating in typical Hulk Hogan fashion.
