We are live from Lakeland, FL. for this week's episode of Monday Nitro with your hosts Eric Bischoff, Bobby Heenan, and Steve McMichael. Tonight, Chris Benoit gets a World Title shot against Randy Savage. Arn Anderson and Brian Pillman take on Kevin Sullivan and Hugh Morris. Ric Flair battles Marcus Bagwell. Also, the WCW World Tag Team Titles are on the line as Sting and Lex Luger take on The Road Warriors, who are back together again.
We're on to the opening match as Savage defends his World Title against Four Horsemen member Benoit. Can Benoit win the title to screw with Horsemen leader Ric Flair or will he just soften Savage up for Flair this Sunday at SuperBrawl? Elizabeth and Woman again accompany the champ to ringside.
Benoit takes the early advantage beating on Savage and sends him to the floor, where Benoit continues his assault. Back in the ring, Benoit nails Savage with an intense looking clothesline. Benoit chops Savage and hits him with various suplexes. Benoit then nails Savage with the diving headbutt off the top rope but doesn't cover him.
Benoit then goes for a dive on the outside, but Savage moves out of the way and Benoit crashed into the guardrail, knocking him out. Savage throws him into the ring and then goes up top for the Flying Elbow Drop and lands it. Ric Flair comes out and hits on the women, especially going after Elizabeth.
Savage goes after Flair as Flair cowardly puts Liz in front of him to protect him from Savage. All of sudden, Woman chokes Savage from behind with her scarf as she turns on Savage and aligns herself with the Four Horsemen. Arn Anderson comes out and attacks Savage as Hulk Hogan runs down with a steel chair and cleans house.
Hogan is being interviewed by Gene Okerlund with Liz standing by him. All of sudden, Flair sucker punches Hogan in his bad eye. The Giant and Zodiac come to the ring as Giant nails Hogan with a steel chair. He wants to hit him again but Zodiac stops him as he keeps trying to prevent The Giant from attacking Hogan.
Savage then takes the steel chair and forces everyone to flee. Savage then checks on Hogan, who's eye is bleeding really bad. Savage then asks Liz why didn't she tell Hogan Flair was standing right behind him?
Savage has a rematch with Chris Benoit it is announced for this Saturday's edition of WCW Saturday Night. Johnny B. Badd will take on Diamond Dallas Page yet again for the WCW TV Title at SuperBrawl. The Nasty Boys-Public Enemy match will indeed be a Street Fight.
It's time for Arn Anderson and Brian Pillman to take on Kevin Sullivan and Hugh Morris. We are shown Sullivan and Morris attacking their opponents last week on Nitro. Arn and Pillman will also be in tag team action this Saturday Night. Pillman chops Morris who simply laughs them off.
He gives both Pillman and Arn press slams. Sullivan tags in and slaps Pillman around. Pillman knees Morris in the back on the apron and Arn gives Morris the spinebuster. The Horsemen double-team Morris until Morris fights back and tags in Sullivan. Sullivan hammers on Pillman and puts him in the Tree of Woe, where he does his running knee on Pillman.
Sullivan the bites Pillman's face until Arn attacks him. Arn takes Sullivan over to the Nitro set and attempts a piledriver on the floor, but Arn is hit from behind with a broomstick by a mysterious person. Sullivan returns to the ring with a strap as the match is thrown out. Morris nails Pillman with No Laughing Matter and Sullivan whips on Pillman.
Ric Flair takes on Marcus Bagwell as Woman is now accompanying Flair to the ring. Paul Orndorff comes to the broadcast and mentions payback as it appears he's the one who hit Arn Anderson with the broom. They announce Hulk Hogan had been taken to the hospital. Flair attacks Bagwell with his chops and right hands while Bagwell hits with clotheslines and dropkicks. Bagwell reverses a Figure Four into an inside cradle for two.
Bagwell slams Flair off the top rope for two. Bagwell then blocks a suplex attempt and puts Flair on the top rope and delivers a superplex again for two. Bagwell goes for a splash off the apron, but Flair puts the knees up. Flair locks in the Figure Four and Bagwell submits. Flair keeps the hold on and even decks the ref for telling him to let go. Randy Savage runs in and Flair runs away.
Sting and Lex Luger are defending the WCW World Tag Team Championships against The Road Warriors. Sting and Animal starts off as Animal takes it to Sting. Sting fights back with a face slam and a flying clothesline off the middle rope.
Luger and Hawk then tag in. Luger gives Hawk a piledriver but Hawk stands right up. Hawk hits him with a clothesline, a jumping shoulderblock, and a fist drop. Sting tags in and hits Hawk with the Stinger Splash and then puts him in the Scorpion Death Lock, but Animal runs in for the save.
Sting throws Animal into the ropes as Luger pulls the rope down to send Animal to the floor. Sting does like that Luger did that. Luger then kicks and elbows Animal in the back and then bodyslams him. The power goes out for a split second as Eric Bischoff blames the WWF for that.
Sting then puts Animal in a front facelock. Jimmy Hart comes down to the ring with something in his hand. Luger tags back in and powerslams Animal and is going for the Torture Rack. Animal counters the Torture Rack and hits him with a back suplex. Animal pins Luger, Sting runs in to break up the count as Hawk comes in and attacks Sting and sends him to the floor.
Luger gives Animal a suplex and Animal gets right up. He gives Luger a powerslam as Hart distracts the referee on the apron. Animal attacks Hart as Luger nails Animal in the back with a metal object that Hart brought with him. Luger pins him for the 1-2-3 to retain the titles. Sting does not look too pleased with how they won as this turns out to be a fascinating combination of a babyface and heel tag team.
Gene Okerlund is in the ring with The Road Warriors. Already, Hawk is demanding another title match as they want to face the winner of the Sting/Luger vs. Harlem Heat match at SuperBrawl VI later that night at SuperBrawl. It looks like that is going to happen.
Eric Bischoff mentions the Hulk Hogan injury and the two Steel Cage matches at SuperBrawl this Sunday as we are out.
