WCW Monday Nitro: September 11, 1995

This week's Monday Nitro is live from the Knight Center in Miami, Florida. This is quite different from the Mall of America last week's inaugural broadcast was held, but this is probably how Nitro will look from arenas all over the country. This week, Nitro will officially go against Raw as Raw

This week's episode will have Sabu making his WCW debut, IRS returning to WCW as the "Million Dollar Man" wannabe, Michael Wall Street, Scott Norton, also in his return to WCW, taking on "Macho Man" Randy Savage, and the main event featuring Hulk Hogan defending the WCW World Heavyweight Championship against the returning Lex Luger.

Let's get right to it and we start with Sabu taking on "Das Wunderkind" Alex Wright in Sabu's WCW debut. A lot of hype I've read about Sabu and his flying aerial assault during his time in ECW and in Japan. Sabu catches Wright on the top rope and gets on his shoulders and rolls him up from the top rope to win in his WCW debut.

Sabu attacks Wright after the match and lays him across a table. Sabu jumps off the top rope and leg drops Wright through the table. Referee Nick Patrick reverses his decision and gives Wright the win via disqualification. This isn't ECW Sabu where you can put your opponents through tables even though "This is where the big boys play."

After the commercial break, Mean Gene Okerlund is interviewing the Nature Boy Ric Flair. Flair was bashing Arn Anderson about being a family man instead of partying with the Nature Boy. Lex Luger came out and simply said "Some things never change" and then leaves.

Next up, Sting defends the United States Heavyweight Championship against Michael (V.K.?) Wall Street, the artist formerly known as IRS from the WWF. Eric Bischoff decides to give away the Shawn Michaels vs. Sid results from Raw as Raw was taped 2-3 weeks ago while Nitro is live. Sting won when he hit Wall Street with a flying cross body off the top rope.

Randy Savage took on Scott Norton as the big man dominated Savage during the match. Eventually Savage got the upper hand when the Dungeon of Doom interfered. The Shark (the artist formerly known as Earthquake and Avalanche) ran in and accidentally fell on Norton's legs, causing him not to get up. Savage climbed the top rope and hit Norton with his flying elbow drop to win the match.

Now for the main event between Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger. Hogan and Luger start the match shoving one another before trading moves. Eventually, Luger got the upper hand and eventually put Hogan in his finisher, the Torture Rack. Luger for some reason let go of the hold as he thought he won until he realized Hogan did not give up.

Luger pinned Hogan and Hogan kicked out at two and began to "Hulk Up" and you know what happens next. Hogan would "no sell" Luger's punches before he throws three right-hand punches himself and then hits him with the big boot and finally the leg drop. The Dungeon of Doom ran in and attacked Hogan, but not Luger. Sting and Randy Savage ran in to help Hogan and run off the DOD.

Mean Gene came into the ring to interview Hogan. Hogan said his match was the "match of his life time." Both Hogan and Savage accuse Luger of being a part of the Dungeon of Doom and Luger says he's not. Sting then wants his buddy Luger to join them on their team for Fall Brawl in six days to replace Vader, who is "AWOL." Vader was fired because of a backstage fight with Paul Orndorff.

Savage vehemently did not want Luger as part of their team. Savage asked why Sting and Jimmy Hart weren't attacked by the Dungeon of Doom along with Luger? Hogan asked the fans what they think. After a positive response, Hogan officially welcomed Luger to their team.

Luger accepted and will join Hogan, Savage, and Sting to take on the Dungeon of Doom in a WarGames match in six days at Fall Brawl.
