Lex Luger's Secret Return to WCW; Vader Suspended by WCW; HBK Told to "Tone Down His Act"; WCW's Nitro Successful Debut; Hulk Hogan Says New Guys are "Too Small"

The debut episode of WCW Monday Nitro was pretty successful. Nitro drew a pretty successful 2.9 yet it did not compete against Monday Night Raw as Raw has been off the air due to the U.S. Open.

It was mostly known for the surprise return of Lex Luger to WCW. Luger had been working for several weeks in the WWF without a contract. He convinced Vince McMahon that he would re-sign with him and the WWF only to be negotiating with Eric Bischoff and his best friend Sting and WCW behind McMahon's back. Luger had wrestled at all the WWF house shows the weekend before Nitro and flew immediately to Minneapolis Sunday Night. Sean Waltman, The 1-2-3 Kid, saw Luger at a party and Waltman called McMahon to tell him he was heading to Nitro.

A spot opened for Luger in WCW when they suspended indefinitely Vader for a backstage fight with "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff at a WCW Saturday Night TV taping just before the inaugural Monday Nitro. Insults were traded and Vader hit him and sent him to the ground. Orndorff got back up and punched Vader and sent him to the floor where he kicked Vader several times. Vader was bruised and bloodied. Vader found him later and attacked him before the two were separated. Despite his high salary, Eric Bischoff could still fire Vader due to the fact Orndorff was a high-ranking backstage official. It appears Luger will take Vader's place at Fall Brawl.

Shawn Michaels said in an interview with Mark Madden from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette where he unleashed some backstage info and said he was told by Vince McMahon to tone down his act so he doesn't upstage the other wrestlers. Michaels said Luger "punched like a girl" a couple of weeks ago. Michaels even called Ric Flair overrated in his prime.

Hulk Hogan goes to WCW management to tell them he thinks newcomers Sabu, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, and Eddie Guerrero are "too small."
