WCW Monday Nitro Beats WWF Monday Night Raw in Ratings in First Head-to-Head Meeting; Eric Bischoff Gives Away Raw Results on Air; Sabu Wins WCW Debut; Dustin Runnels as Goldust

This was the first time WCW Monday Nitro and WWF Monday Night Raw went head-to-head as Raw was not on last week because the U.S. Open. Nitro still eeked out a 2.6 to 2.5 win over Raw. It must be noted that Nitro was not held at a mall and held in an arena.

Hulk Hogan defended the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in the main event against Lex Luger. Eric Bischoff mentioned several times that Luger walked out on the WWF. Luger apparently jumped ship from the WWF to WCW for a "more lucrative" and guaranteed contract with less working dates then he had in the WWF. Luger might be the fourth member of the Four Horsemen.

Bischoff then used his platform to give away the taped results of that week's Raw, saying Shawn Michaels superkicked Sid for the win. Bischoff also called the WWF "bush league" and said WWF Champion Diesel was nothing but mid card in WCW. Sabu made his WCW debut by defeating Alex Wright. Afterwards, Sabu put Wright through a table as this is not ECW.

Speaking of Lex Luger, he was supposed to be on WWF Superstars to interview about his situation with King Mabel and his former tag team partner Davey Boy Smith at SummerSlam and then take him on the following week on Superstars. There was to be a program where Luger would team with Diesel to take on Mabel and The British Bulldog, likely to have been at this upcoming In Your House but now that is changed to Diesel and Shawn Michaels taking on Tag Team Champions Yokozuna and Owen Hart with all three WWF men's titles on the line.

Shane Douglas made his in-ring debut as Dean Douglas on this past weekend's episode of WWF Superstars where he took on The 1-2-3 Kid. The Kid and Razor Ramon look to have a feud coming up with The Kid turning heel.

The WWF is taking their time with Dustin Runnels (Dustin Rhodes) and his new character Goldust to build it up to be more complex and strange as if the look isn't strange enough.
